What is Xylitol?
Xylitol is a sugar alcohol that is commonly used as a sugar substitute. It’s a naturally occurring substance found in many fruits, vegetables, and also even in the human body. Xylitol is a natural sweetener derived from the fibrous parts of plants. On the industrial scale, xylitol is sourced mainly from corn cobs or birch trees. Xylitol is widely used as a sugar substitute and in “sugar-free” chewing gums, mints, and other candies. Similar in taste to regular sugar, but with a significant difference; xylitol has a low glycemic index and is low in calories. The xylitol molecule contains only 5 carbon atoms rather than 6 like most other sugars. This molecular difference is the key to xylitol’s beneficial qualities.
A delicious, low–calorie sweetener:
MorSweet has all the sweetness of common sugars, yet has 40% fewer calories. MorSweet is an ideal alternative sweetener; Found in foods prepared for weight loss or for anyone concerned about the overuse of sugar in their diet.
Diabetes and Obesity:
MorSweet can be used as the best sugar alternative for most common sweeteners. So you don’t have to compromise on its taste or texture. Unlike so many other sugar alternatives, MorSweet does not have any aftertaste. It is metabolized without insulin, so it creates a significantly lower glycemic effect when eaten. Regular sugar has a glycemic index score of 85 to 100 compared to MorSweet’s glycemic index of only 7. This is great news for anyone who has to control their sugar consumption and choose foods low in glycemic effects.
Boosts dental health and helps prevent tooth decay:
Studies have determined that xylitol boosts dental health and helps prevent tooth decay. These oral bacteria feed on glucose from food, but they can not use xylitol. As such, replacing sugar with xylitol reduces the available fuel for the harmful bacteria.
While these bacteria cannot use xylitol for fuel, they still ingest it. Xylitol can starve the harmful bacteria in your mouth, reducing plaque buildup and tooth decay. This can help prevent dental cavities and inflammatory gum diseases.
Xylitol Reduces Ear and Yeast Infections:
Your mouth, nose and ears are all interconnected. Therefore, bacteria that live in the mouth can end up causing ear infections. A common problem in children. It turns out that xylitol can starve some of these bacteria in the same way that it starves plaque-producing bacteria. Xylitol also fights the yeast Candida albicans, which can lead to candida infections. Xylitol reduces the yeast’s ability to stick to surfaces, thereby helping prevent infection.
Do not feed to dogs; for human consumption only. Polyols may cause laxative effect.
When cooking, replace sugar with MorSweet in equal measurements. MorSweet is heat stable for cooking and baking. It mixes and dissolves like common sugar.
