Top 3 causes of Bedsores

Bedsores are caused by pressure against the skin that limits blood flow to the skin. Limited movement can make skin vulnerable to damage and lead to development of bedsores. The top 3 causes of bedsores are listed below:

  1. Pressure: Blood flow is essential for delivering oxygen and other nutrients to tissues. Constant pressure on any part of your body lessens the blood flow to the tissues. Without these essential nutrients, skin and nearby tissues are damaged and might eventually die. For people with limited mobility, this kind of pressure tends to happen in areas that aren’t well padded with muscle or fat and that lie over a bone, such as the spine, tailbone, shoulder blades, hips, heels, inner knees, elbows and seat bones.
  2. Friction: Friction occurs when the skin rubs against clothing or bedding. It can make skin more vulnerable to injury, especially if the skin is moist. Any repetitive friction or rubbing can cause blisters. When friction and pressure are combined, it can make the layers of fat and muscle move laterally in relation to the bone underneath. This can result in the formation of bedsores because unhealthy skin may tear, which increases the chance of infection.
  3. Shear: Shear is a mechanical force that acts on an area of skin in a direction parallel to the body’s surface. Shear occurs when two surfaces move    in the opposite direction. For example, when a bed is elevated at the head, you can slide down in bed. As the tailbone moves down, the skin over    the bone might stay in place — essentially pulling in the opposite direction. Shear is one of the major causes of skin breakdown in sitting and occurs during transfers, reaching, weight shifts or repositioning.

Treating Bedsores with GoHeal® Ointment

People who have been confined to their bed or a wheelchair due to paralysis or other types of sicknesses are at a high risk of acute or chronic wounds. It damages the skin and the underlying tissue due to pressure on the area that is in contact for extended periods of time.

Healing Bedsores with GoHeal®:  GoHeal® helps with the recovery of such sores and promotes skin integrity back into the affected area.

Follow the 4 simple steps:

Benefits of GoHeal1. Clean the wound: Wounds should be gently washed with water and a mild soap. Apply GoHeal® Ointment and bandage the wound.

2. Control incontinence: You need to control incontinence as far as possible.

3. Remove dead tissue: A wound does not heal well if dead or infected tissue is present, so debridement is necessary. Apply GoHeal® after debridement and wound cleaning and then dress the Bedsore.

4. Apply dressing: GoHeal® protects the wound, promotes regeneration of healthy tissues and accelerates healing. Dressing should be changed once every 24 hours.
